Overview.
This 11 days Uganda Safari package involves exploring the very best of Uganda’s tourist destinations to include Murchison falls National Park, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Bunyonyi, Lake Mburo National Park, Kibale Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
By the time you end this long safari, you will fall deeply in love with Uganda and wish to undertake the same safari soonest or even recommend to someone special. The trip starts and ends in Uganda but the activities will leave you fully satisfied and offer value for your money.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Entry into Uganda and drive to Kampala City for relaxation.
Just when the plane lands at Entebbe International Airport, our safari guide will be already on-ground to welcome and transfer you to Kampala City for meals and slumber.
Day 2: Road trip to the magnificent Murchison falls National Park, via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
Just after your breakfast, the driver will be already be at the Hotel waiting to set-off by 7:00am to Murchison falls National Park, in north-western Uganda via the spectacular Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This will be by about 10:00 or 11:00am for the 2 hours’ Rhino Tracking adventure that will see you encounter a wide range of antelope species, warthogs and bird species especially the shoebill storks.
Lunch at either Amuka Lodge, still within Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary or Kabalega Diners then continue to the Park through any of the gates.
Day 3: Morning game drive and afternoon boat ride to the bottom of the falls.
Wake up early for a quick cup of tea/coffee for the highlight of most Uganda safaris-“Game drive: through the northern banks of the Nile River to catch-up with the nocturnal animals such as serval cats, spotted hyenas, lions, leopards and jackals before returning to their hideouts as well as bushbucks, warthogs, Oribis, Jackson’s hartebeests and buffaloes. Get back to the Lodge for a proper breakfast or snack and relaxation while waiting for Lunch as well as the next activity.
In the afternoon undertake a boat ride up-stream to the bottom of the falls where the thundering sound as well as mind-blowing view is produced as the waters of River Nile forcefully pass through a narrow gorge and pour into a Devil’s Cauldron about 45 meters below. This is probably the highlight of the boat ride while the Hippos, Nile crocodiles, buffaloes and Uganda Kobs relax by the banks of the River seize the moment. Your dinner and overnight stay will be as the previous day.
Day 4: Scenic drive to Kibale Forest National Park.
After a nice wilderness breakfast, embark on a road transfer to Kibale Forest National Park, while relishing the stunning views of the Mountains of the Moon, countryside with rural homesteads, the Albertine Escarpment and Rift Valley. Lunch will be in Hoima Oil City and arrive your booked place of stay in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Adventurous chimp trek in Kibale Forest and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
The sweet melody of birds is the wake up calls in the jungle and a hot cup of tea/coffee is the best way to start the day. Transfer to the Park Headquarters for the chimp trek that starts with briefing by Park Officials and search for mankind’s closest relatives in the forest. Keep your eyes and ears wide open to see and hear the sounds of the birds, other resident primates and butterflies while trekking and find them after 1-3 hours of hectic trek through thickets, valleys, jumping rivers and falling.
One hour is the allocated time with them and return to the Lodge for Lunch. Pack your bags, check-out of the Park and leave for Queen Elizabeth National Park reaching in the evening for dinner and slumber.
Day 6: Savannah game drive and Boat cruise on the serene Kazinga Channel.
After a heavy breakfast or just a cup of tea/coffee, hop-into the open-roofed safari vehicle for a game drive through the savannah plains of Kasenyi. Prides of lions, solitary leopards, herds of elephants, buffaloes, Uganda Kobs and warthogs will be encountered, then drive back to the Lodge for Lunch. Be driven by your safari driver from the Lodge to the Mweya jetty for the start of the boat cruise on Kazinga Channel.
Unforgettable moments during this boat ride are huge crocodiles widely opening mouths to capture flies, Hippos and many other wildlife species that occasionally visit the shores to drink water and cool-off. Overnight stay and meals as Day 5.
Day 7: Transfer from Queen Elizabeth Park to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, with en-route drive through Ishasha sector.
The safari gets more and more exciting with the transfer to the ultimate gorilla trekking destination (Bwindi Impenetrable National Park). Breakfast and check-out from the Park, then begin driving southwards while encountering more of this Park’s wonders and have another drive through Ishasha sector, renowned tree climbing lions’ home where they are normally found lazing on branches of old fig trees.
Arrive in Bwindi forest after 4-5 hours and this depends on the sector you are visiting and unwind, dine and slumber.
Day 8: Gorilla Trekking adventure and transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park / Kisoro Town.
After breakfast, report at the Park Headquarters with your gorilla permits, passport and other necessary gorilla trekking gear for briefing on the guidelines of trekking gorillas. This is followed by allocation into a habituated gorilla family with other 7 persons, then start the trekking adventure through the jungles.
Trekking time will depend on a number of factors-movement/location of the mountain gorillas, pace of movement and level of physical fitness but past experiences shows it takes 2-6 hours, including the one hour in their presence. Descend to the starting point for an award of trekking certificate and to the Lodge for Lunch. Drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park or Kisoro Town for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 9: Golden Monkey tracking in Mgahinga Gorilla Park and drive to the tranquil Lake Bunyonyi.
Early in the morning after a hefty breakfast at the Lodge head for Golden Monkey tracking within Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Start with breakfast followed by briefing at the Visitor Center, then start the trek that will last 1-3 hours before the golden monkeys are found on the lower slopes of the Virunga Mountains dominated by Bamboo forest.
On spending one hour with them return to the Lodge for hot meal and drive to Lake Bunyonyi for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 10: Drive from the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi to Lake Mburo National Park, in western Uganda.
As the safari comes to an end, make a transfer to Lake Mburo National Park, western Uganda after an amazing breakfast. Lunch in Mbarara Town and arrive in the late afternoon and immediately start the game drive towards the Lodge where you will freshen-up and relax for a short time.
Undertake an evening game drive that introduces you to the leopards, spotted hyenas, Owls and bush babies that call this Park home. Get back to the Lodge for overnight stay after a wonderful dinner.
Day 11: Morning game drive or guided bush walk in Lake Mburo National Park and return to Kampala City.
Breakfast and undertake a morning game drive or guided bush walk to get up-close with the Park’s hidden beauty. Have Lunch and set-off for a return journey to Kampala, arriving in the evening for Check-in at a Hotel or to Entebbe International Airport for the scheduled departure flight.
