Overview.
This 3 days wildlife safari to Akagera national park takes you to Rwanda’s only savannah park which avails amazing opportunities to travelers to meet Big 5 mammals, away from the famed mountain gorillas.
Akagera’s recent upgrade to a Big 5 destination has been made possible by African parks, an organization that currently manages it. Like never before, a safari to Akagera national park now gives you chances to meet Lions, Leopards, Southern black Rhinos, Buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, waterbucks, the Roan antelopes, Topis and variety of birdlife, up to 500 species.
On this tour, you will engage in a 2 hour boat cruise along the magnificent Lake Ihema where more reptile residents of the park can be spotted.
The tour is perfect for wildlife lovers, photographers, couples on honeymoon, group travelers and solo travelers alike.
Safari Day by Day.
Day 1: Kigali to Akagera National Park.
After breakfast or upon landing at Kigali city, our company representative will be ready to pick you and embark on a 2 hour drive to Akagera national park. The national park is located in eastern region bordering Tanzania and traversed by the magnificent Akagera River, where the park borrows its name.
Upon arrival, check in at your hotel, have lunch and in the afternoon you may decide to relax at the lodge or take a leisurely game drive in the plains of Akagera national park.
Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise via Lake Ihema.
This morning, wake up to a lovely sunrise and delicious breakfast, before heading to the park for game experience. This park is well known for its massive herds of buffaloes, elephants, majestic giraffes, and lucky visitors will spot elusive leopards and hyenas as they return to their dens from the night hunt, plus amazing bird life.
Later after lunch, you will go to Lake Ihema for a luxurious boat cruise. This trip will reward visitors with reptile sightings including hippos, turtles, crocodiles and monitor lizards, as well as elusive birds notably the kingfishers, herons, cormorants, fish eagle, storks, grey crowned crane and egrets.
Day 3: Return to Kigali city, with enroute cultural tours.
Have breakfast and thereafter exit your lodge back to Kigali, Rwanda’s capital. Depending on your flight schedule, the guide will take you to nearby villages, notably Nyakarambi village where you will learn about the local Kinyarwanda activities, norms, paintings, known as Imigongo and admire their traditional cattle.
After this experience, continue with a drive to Kigali to catch your departure flight or relaxation at your hotel.
