3 DAYS MOUNT RWENZORI HIKE.
Overview.
The 3 days Mount Rwenzori Hike is the shortest and rewarding hike of the Rwenzori Mountains, dubbed the “Mountains of the Moon”. Spread across the Uganda-Democratic Republic of Congo border, the Rwenzori Mountains tower to 5,109 meters above sea level. Most hikes to the highest peak (Margherita) last up to 9 days with the Kilembe Trekking route or Rwenzori Central Circuit being the most-popularly used but require high levels of physical abilities and perseverance.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Drive from Kampala to Kasese.
Breakfast at the Hotel/Motel or any other location in Kampala/Entebbe and embark on your journey to Kasese. This drive lasts about 6-8 hours and involves making a stop at Uganda Equator for 30 minutes of photography and coffee. Your second stop will be in Mbarara Town for Lunch and go on with your journey to Kasese while enjoying views of tea plantations in Bushenyi, Ankole long-horned Cattle, spectacular terraced hills and many other memorable en-route views. Overnight stay and dinner at a Hotel in Kasese as you prepare yourself for the next day’s strenuous hike.
Day 2: Hike from the foothills of Rwenzori Mountains to Sine Camp.
On this day you will have breakfast at the Hotel in Kasese and transfer to Rwenzori Mountains National Park for briefing on the hike. Later start your hike from the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains (about 1,450 meters) to Sine Camp about 2,680 meters above sea level where you will set a Camp for overnight stay and meals. Walk slowly from the valet floor through towering trees within the lower Afro-montane forest zone and continue consistently while encountering wide array of bird species and from here your chances of encountering blue monkeys and the black and white colobus monkeys is also high.
Sometimes hikers come across the L’Hoest’s monkeys, which form part of the cultural emblems of the Bakonzo people who protect them. Also you will see several flowers, Bamboo, vines covered with moss and lichens and most interestingly the magnificent Enock falls. These falls are near the Sine Camp (only 200 meters far from each other) and this is here the ascent stops. However, some visitors who still feel energized continue hiking until Kalalama Camp at about 3134 meters or until Mutinda Camp about 3975 meters above sea level.
Day 3: Descend to the base of the Rwenzori Mountains and return back to Kampala/Entebbe.
After breakfast at Sine Camp and descend to the base of the Rwenzori Mountains, where you will meet your safari driver for a transfer to Kampala/Entebbe International Airport or proceed with your tour/safari to other outstanding destinations in the country.
