Overview.
The 4 days Akagera Park Safari is a fantastic short safari leading visitors to Rwanda’s only savannah National Park in the Eastern part of the country, bordering Tanzania. This safari offers a rare opportunity of seeing big five animals, giraffes, Topis, Kobs, Defassa waterbucks, Sitatunga, black and white colobus monkeys, common elands, vervet monkeys, warthogs, olive baboons in addition to more than 200 of the 500 species of birds in the Park in a single safari.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Pick-up from Kigali International Airport and transfer to a hotel in Kigali City.
The first day of this short Akagera safari is for arrival into the country and brief Tour of the City. Be welcomed by our professional driver who will then brief you on the safari and take you through the City’s fabulous cultural and historical sites that include craft or souvenirs markets, the Kimironko food market teeming with buyers and sellers bargaining for better offers, Genocide Memorial Sites and many others. Lunch, dinner and overnight will be at the Hotel within the outskirts of the City.
Day 2: Drive from Kigali City to the spectacular Akagera National Park and afternoon boat ride.
Have breakfast and leave for Akagera National Park, arriving in the afternoon then check-in for a cold bathe as well as nice Lunch. Drive to the Lake Ihema jetty for the start of the boat ride on Rwanda’s second largest Lake with abundant views of the crocodiles, Hippos and bird species such as African fish eagles, giant king fishers, grey-crowned cranes and may others. After about 2 hours of the boat ride, get back to the Lodge for hot meal and slumber.
Day 3: Early morning game drive through the vast savannah plains and fishing experience.
On this day you will be exploring Akagera National Park in two ways-morning game drive and fishing. Start the day with breakfast and meet-up with your safari driver for a game drive through the extensive plains where you will clearly see huge elephants, common elands, buffaloes, Rothschild giraffes, warthogs, Lions, the sitatunga, Topis, Uganda Kobs, common elands, leopards, warthogs and many others.
Lunch will be at the Lodge and in the afternoon be introduced to the unique fish species in Akagera National Park’s Lake Shakani such as Tilapia and many others. Have a barbeque night, dinner and overnight stay at the Lodge.
Day 4: Another game drive and departure.
You will have the last game drive of this short tour to introduce you to some of the missed wildlife and bird species. This will increase chances of seeing more of the Park’s nocturnal species especially civets and serval cats among others.
Return to the Lodge to freshen-up, have Lunch and check-out of the Lodge for a transfer to Kigali where you will be dropped-off at the Hotel or Airport.
