Overview.
The 4 days Congo Lowland Gorilla Trekking and Rwanda Gorilla Tour is one of the shortest combined tours offering visitors the chance to encounter two sub-species of the Eastern gorillas-the Eastern Lowland Gorillas within Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo as well as Mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, north-western Rwanda in addition to other activities that will spice up your experience.
This short gorilla tour starts from Kigali (Rwanda) with mountain gorilla trekking then crossing over to south of Lake Kivu to the spectacular Kahuzi-Biega National Park for lowland gorilla trekking.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Drive to Volcanoes National Park, north – western Rwanda.
On arrival at the prestigious City of Kigali (through Kigali International Airport), you will be welcomed by your safari guide who will introduce/brief you on the safari you are about to undertake. Depending on the arrival time, you are likely to tour the City’s top tourist sites.
Embark on the journey to Volcanoes National Park, lasting about 3 hours and ushers you into the jungles of Rwanda’s only gorilla trekking destination. Lunch will be served on arrival to allow you visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village or undertake a tour to the Twin Lakes of Ruhondo and Burera. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the booked Lodge within the outskirts of Volcanoes National Park.
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking and transfer to Bukavu Town.
Breakfast will be at the Lodge and by 7:00am assemble at Kinigi Park Headquarters for registration (make sure to have your gorilla permit and passport) as well as briefing on the guidelines of trekking the gorillas.
Enter Volcanoes National Park and trek for 1-4 hours through one of the trails to search for the attached gorilla family of which you will spend one hour on finding them. Return to the Lodge for Lunch and leave for Bukavu Town in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, about 6-7 hours away, arriving in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Lowland Gorilla Trekking and Tour of Bukavu Town.
Breakfast will be served by 6:00am and is followed by jumping into the safari vehicle for the 40 kilometer/one-hour drive to the Park Headquarters for briefing on lowland gorilla trekking guidelines.
No wildlife experience is greater than trekking the largest gorilla species in their natural habitat. On spending quality time in their presence, get back to Bukavu Town for a tour to its popular sites such as Nyamyumba Hot springs and the Museum of Environment among others.
Day 4: Return to Kigali City.
Be served breakfast and transfer to Kigali City with enroute lunch and arrive in the evening for dinner and overnight at your preferred Lodge. If your flight is scheduled for this day, you will be driven to the Airport.
