4 DAYS DOUBLE GORILLA TREKKING IN RWANDA.
Overview.
The 4 days Double Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda is a fantastic gorilla safari that allows visitors to trek two gorilla families within the remarkable Volcanoes National Park, Northern Province of Rwanda.
The safari starts from Kigali City involves other activities such as Kigali City tour, Community tours and visit to Musanze Caves/or tours of the Twin Lakes of Ruhondo and Burera.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Road transfer to Volcanoes National Park, within the Northern Province of Rwanda.
Our Company representative/safari guide will welcome you into Rwanda upon arrival at Kigali International Airport and transfer to Volcanoes National Park. The journey lasts about 3 hours and entails having Lunch on arrival or Kigali before leaving for the gorilla trekking destination.
This park extends for 160 square kilometers and shelters over 400 mountain gorillas with 10 habituated gorilla families to be tracked by 80 persons per day. Check in at the Lodge on arrival for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: First gorilla trek and visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village.
Prepare for your first gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park by wearing the appropriate gorilla trekking attire and having breakfast before transferring to the park headquarters. You will find fellow trekkers at the park headquarters, curiously waiting for briefing on the guidelines of trekking the mountain gorillas and allocation to one of the gorilla families.
At 8am start the informative trek through the forest while identifying unique attractions of the park and after 1-4 hours of trekking, meet the great apes playing, foraging, resting, grooming and spend one hour in their presence. Feel free to stand or squat while taking photos or studying their unique behavior, at least 7 meters away from them. Return to your Lodge for a hot meal and wait for the next program of the day.
In the afternoon/or evening be driven to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village where you will immerse yourself into typical Rwandan culture. Exciting activities here are cultural dance performances, visit to traditional healers, preparation and tasting of local dishes, grinding millet into flour using local stones and many other cultural activities. After this fascinating cultural moment, return to the Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Second gorilla trek and visit to Musanze Caves/or visit to the Twin lakes.
Breakfast will be served at the Lodge and is followed by transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters for the second gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park. You will go through the same process (registration, briefing and the general trek) as in the previous day but only this time you will be trekking a different gorilla family.
In this day you will have visit to the Twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera or tour of Musanze Caves as the second activity. All these two activities offer rewarding experiences and on completion return to the Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Drive back to Kigali for City tour and departure.
Have breakfast and leave the Lodge as well as Volcanoes National Park for Kigali City. Drive through the City’s popular tourist sites such as craft markets, genocide memorial sites and have lunch.
Be driven to Kigali International Airport for departure flight or preferred place of stay if the flight is not scheduled for this day.
