Overview.
A safari to one of the premier gorilla trekking destinations; this 4 days gorilla and Bunyonyi Safari is a thrilling short safari that takes you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to trek the endangered mountain gorillas in the mist and relax on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in south-western Uganda is a true meaning of spectacular, as far as African Tropical rainforests are concerned and is home to over 20 gorilla families that are open for trekking or research purposes, the highest so far.
Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: Depart Entebbe or Kampala for a drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla trekking tour.
Leave Entebbe or Kampala City after breakfast for the 8-9 hours’ road transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park found in the extreme south-western corner of Uganda. This Park shelters almost half the World’s population of Mountain gorillas and is the only place for the Gorilla Habituation Experience is conducted in addition to sheltering both gorillas and chimpanzees.
Break your journey occasionally to stretch legs, have lunch and photography. Arrive Bwindi in the evening and make way to the booked Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
On day 2 you will spend half day in the jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park searching for the endangered mountain gorillas. Make sure to be at the briefing point by 7:00am for an orientation on the Park and gorilla trekking procedures as well as guidelines and start the trek by 8am. Gradually start the walk, progress slowly while encountering other residents of the Park, being caught among the thickets. Jump rivers, hold yourself on tree branches, occasionally fall and be supported up to your feet, breathe faster but behold, the mountain gorillas are not far from your sight and once found, get your camera out, relax and capture every outstanding moment in their presence. This moment is priceless and return to the Lodge for Lunch.
In the afternoon undertake a relaxing community walk through the neighboring villages where you will discover an extraordinarily beautiful way of life and culture. Drive or walk back to the Lodge for enjoy a glass of wine (at your own cost) while watching sunset in the Jungle from the private deck of your Lodge.
Day 3: Transfer from Bwindi Impenetrable to Lake Bunyonyi area for recreational activities.
This morning you will drive to the next destination of the safari for recreational activities. Lake Bunyonyi is a lava-dammed Lake, formed when Lava from one of the Virunga Volcanoes blocked a River Channel hence creating the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi. This is Africa’s second deepest Lake and known for offering your much needed relaxation after a strenuous gorilla trek. Arrive in the afternoon for check-in and Lunch at the Lodge/Hotel/Resort overlooking the Lake.
Undertake a boat ride for island hopping to discover the different jaw-dropping Islands of the Lake including the Akampene Island (Punishment Island) where pregnant unmarried girls were left to die as a way of fighting teenage pregnancies, Bucuranuka (upside down), Kyahugye Island, Bwama Island and many others. After this exciting boat ride, get back to the Lodge for evening relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Drive back to Kampala or Entebbe.
Have breakfast and embark on a return journey to Kampala or Entebbe International Airport.
