4 DAYS KIBALE AND QUEEN ELIZABETH SAFARI.
Overview.
Our 4 days Kibale and Queen Elizabeth Safari takes you to western Uganda for tours of the thick rainforests of Kibale Forest National Park, home to over 13 primate species where chimpanzee trekking is mainly conducted and Queen Elizabeth National Park home to Uganda’s richest bird species diversity as well as the only place in the country to see tree-climbing lions.
The trip starts in Kampala and starts with a visit to Queen Elizabeth National, then Kibale Forest National and ends in Kampala/Entebbe International Airport.
Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: Drive from Kampala City to Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda.
On this day you will be picked up from your Hotel/Lodge/Guesthouse in the morning to drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Your safari guide before leaving will first brief you on the short safari, what to expect, the total drive time and different stopovers to prepare yourself for the journey. Traverse small Towns, enjoy beautiful views while going through the Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara-Bushenyi-Kasese route and have a chance to visiting the Mpambire drum makers.
Lunch will be on arrival at the Park and instantly be driven to Mweya jetty for the boat cruise along Kazinga Channel. It is from this boat cruise hat you will see highest concentration of Hippos and crocodiles as well as wide range of wildlife drinking along the shores of the Channel. Return to Mweya jetty, connect with your safari driver for transfer to the Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Morning game drive and road transfer to Kibale Forest National Park for chimp trek
Be up early for breakfast and undertake the game drive with a Park ranger on-board to swiftly locate animals from their various hideouts. Nothing beats the feeling of wildlife viewing at sunrise and expect rare opportunities of seeing Topis, buffaloes, lions, elephants, Uganda Kobs, Defassa waterbucks, spotted hyenas and giant forest hogs among others.
After 2-3 hours of the game drive, return to the Lodge for Lunch and instantly check-out of the lodge for a transfer to Kibale Forest National Park.
Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi wetland walk.
Early in the morning have breakfast and transfer to Kanyanchu Visitor Center where briefing will be conducted to equip trekkers with information on guidelines of trekking, what to expect and provide walking stick. It is also from here that you will be introduced to your guide to lead the search through the forest for the chimpanzees and along the way meet blue monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, L’Hoests monkeys, olive baboons and grey-cheeked mangabeys in addition to birds, butterflies and tree species of special interest.
After 1-3 hours of falling, getting stuck, being stung and most interestingly meeting different attractions, locate the chimpanzees and spend one hour to observe and take photos of them. Enjoy a hot meal at the Lodge and drive to Bigodi wetland Sanctuary, at the edge of Kibale Forest National Park.
Be led by a local guide through the wetland to spot a variety of wetland bird species that include the Black bishops, Green-breasted pitta, superb sunbirds, white-breasted Negrofinch, great blue Turaco, Narina Trogon, Brown-chested Alethe, Papyrus gonolek, African Pitta and Little Bulbul among others. Drive back to the same place of stay for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Crater Lake walk and transfer back to Kampala.
Wake up for a leisurely breakfast, check-out of the Lodge for return trip to Kampala. First head for the Crater Lake walk and continue to Kampala with en-route Lunch and arrive in the evening.
