Overview.
The 4 days Lake Mburo Safari is a mind-blowing package that leads visitors on a dramatic and rewarding wildlife experience within the country’s smallest but endowed savannah Park. This exquisite safari begins in Kampala (any location in the capital city) and involves spending days exploring its hidden treasures through exciting game drives, boat ride, horseback ride, guided bush walks and many others.
The safari ends in Kampala but expect endless views of zebras, impalas, Topis, olive baboons, vervet monkeys, leopards, Oribis, serval cats, spotted hyenas, Rothschild giraffes, Hippos, common elands, buffaloes, Nile crocodiles and Defassa waterbucks among others.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Uganda or pick-up from any location in Kampala for scenic drive to Lake Mburo National Park
On this day you will start your journey to the destination where the safari is going to be based and involves departing any location of your choice in Kampala or the Airport. This 3-4 hours’ drive follows scenic highway and transverse vibrant Towns of Masaka, Mpigi, Lyantonde before arriving on-time to start the activities.
There will be an en-route stop at Uganda Equator line at Kayabwe (Mpigi district) for 30 minutes then continue with the journey to the Park and while making way to the booked places of stay, search for wildlife species where you expect to spot vervet monkeys, buffaloes, Topis, Impalas, kudu, zebras, Rothschild giraffes, olive baboons and many others. Lunch will be had on arrival at the Lodge and then laze around the Lodge for the rest of the evening.
Day 2: World-class game viewing experience and afternoon boat ride.
You will be treated to a lovely breakfast at the Lodge in/near Lake Mburo National Park after which venture into a proper game drive. Every second spent driving in Lake Mburo National Park is magical and early morning is ideal for game drives. This is the time you see the elusive leopards, serval cats or spotted hyenas returning to their hideouts, herds of buffaloes gathered on the shores of Lake Mburo and what makes game drives is more exciting is not knowing what to expect.
Get back to the Lodge when the sun begins getting hotter for a brunch, relaxation by your room private deck while admiring the sweeping views of the wilderness, unwinding by the poolside or browsing in the curio shop while waiting for Lunch. In the afternoon head out for the boat ride on Lake Mburo where Nile crocodiles and Hippos can be spotted, As the sun gets hotter, numerous wildlife species especially impalas, buffaloes, bushbucks, warthogs and Defassa waterbucks tend to converge around the shores of the Lake, making it another excellent game viewing spot in the Park. Retreat to the Lodge at around sunset to partake of the dinner within the Lodge’s restaurant or around fire while being entertained.
Day 3: Horseback rides and evening community/village walk.
Start your third day with an early morning cup of tea/coffee before heading out on another extraordinary wildlife viewing adventure, this time not with the vehicle but on a horseback. No park offers this opportunity in Uganda and few in Africa, thus count yourself lucky to have undertaken on this chance. You will ride a horse amidst zebras, giraffes, Defassa waterbucks and impalas and return to the Lodge for a full breakfast.
In the afternoon be driven to Rwenjeru community campsite for learn about the culture of the Banyankole people, centered on cattle keeping. Learn about cattle watering, milking and grazing, then return to the Lodge to freshen-up, unwind, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Guided bush walk and return to Kampala.
On this day you will undertake a walking safari through Lake Mburo National Park to have a more intimate experience of the wilderness. Return to the Lodge after 3-4 hours of the bush walk, pack up and exit the Park through any of the gates.
Be dropped off at a Hotel or any other location in Kampala or Entebbe International Airport as you leave with unforgettable memories from the short wildlife safari.
