4 DAYS MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK SAFARI.
Overview.
With the 4 days Murchison falls National Park Safari, you get to explore the unblemished beauty and rich biodiversity of Uganda’s largest and oldest National Park, situated within the north-western corner of the country. With a visit to this Park and participation in game drives, hike to the top of the falls and boat cruises to the bottom of the falls, you will concur with Winston Churchill that Uganda is indeed the Pearl of Africa.
The Park is a haven to about 76 species of mammals that include Oribis, Uganda Kobs, Defassa waterbucks, chimpanzees, Bohor Reedbucks, black and white colobus monkeys, elephants, common elands, vervet monkeys, buffaloes, lions, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, Topis, leopards, warthogs, Rothschild giraffes and many others. En-route stops such as the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary will definitely spice up this safari.
Trip Itinerary.
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala or Entebbe to Murchison falls National Park with en-route stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
After an early morning breakfast, leave Kampala for Murchison falls National Park in north-western Uganda through the renowned Luwero Triangle (where many Ugandans lost their lives during the 1980’s Liberation war that ushered in the NRM Government).
Break your 7-8 hours’ journey at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola where you have the golden chance to tracking the southern white Rhinos on foot. After this humbling experience, continue to Masindi Town for Lunch and arrive the Park in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Undertake morning game drive, afternoon Boat cruise and hike to the top of the jaw-dropping falls.
Murchison falls National Park is one of the most beautiful places you will ever visit in Africa, known for its myriad of wildlife species, spectacular landscapes, breathtaking natural features, plethora of bird species and varying vegetation types-savannah, Tropical rainforest, woodland and wetland. However, the highlight of trips to the Park are game drives and on this day start the day with breakfast and start the game drive with the anticipation of spotting Jackson’s hartebeests, giraffes, Uganda Kobs, lions, waterbucks, spotted hyenas, leopards, elephants, bushbucks, Topis and buffaloes. After the remarkable 3-4 hours’ game drive, retreat to the Lodge for Lunch and relaxation while waiting for the next activity of the day.
After the mouth-watering Lunch, drive from the Lodge to the Paraa jetty for the famed 3 hours’ Boat cruise to the bottom of the falls. If you have never been close to Hippos or crocodiles, then the boat cruise will take your breath away. Also, elephants, buffaloes and Uganda Kobs will be spotted drinking or bathing along the banks of the River.
Disembark from the boat to start the challenging hike to the top of the falls to clearly watch the Nile River water forcing through a narrow gorge (of less than 8 meters) before falling 45 meters below with roaring sound into the Devil’s Cauldron. Find your Safari driver at the top of the falls for a return drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking in Budongo Forest and enjoy Cultural performances at Boomu women’s group.
On this day you will spend some quality time in the presence of the chimpanzees within Budongo forest, at the southern edge of Murchison falls National Park. Take breakfast and be driven from the lodge to Kaniyo-Pabidi sector, where most chimp treks are conducted and be briefed on the conduct while trekking or when with the chimpanzees.
Trekking time is 1-3 hours but other primates (especially olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys and vervet monkeys), array of bird species and butterflies will be encountered during the trek and on finding them, and you will be entitled to one hour in their magical presence. Get back to the Lodge and relax because in the evening you will have Campfire with cultural performances from the BOOMU Women’s and Cultural group.
Day 4: Return to Kampala
Breakfast in the lush Budongo forest and leave for Kampala. Lunch will be enroute and be transferred to Entebbe International Airport for departure flight or Kampala at a drop-off point of your choice.
End of safari.
