Overview.
The 4 days Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari is an all-inclusive tour leading to one of Uganda’s most popular destinations to maximize your wildlife viewing opportunities. Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda was established in 1952 but has since then never ceased amazing visitors.
With over 95 outstanding species of mammals, over 600 bird species, spectacular sceneries brought about by the sweeping savannah plains, numerous Crater Lakes, far-flung Rwenzori Mountains, Rift Valley Lakes of Edward and George as well as the Kazinga Channel, what more would you ask for in an African safari destination? There are only two places in the whole World where the rare tree climbing lions are found and Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of them. Not only that, it boasts of high hippo and Nile crocodile populations that are second to none in Africa.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Scenic drive from Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
The first day of your safari starts with a pre-departure briefing at the Hotel or any other location in Kampala. Later head off on a 7-8 hours’ journey, taking a short break at Kayabwe, Uganda Equator lining for 30 minutes of photography and experimentation and another in Igongo Cultural Center for a quick Lunch. The continue with the scenic drive while enjoying views of sweeping tea plantations and enter Queen Elizabeth National Park through any of the Park’s gates (especially Katunguru or Kabatoro gates).
Immediately begin your game drive on entering the Park, visiting the Crater Lakes and observing the famous inhabitants of this Park like Defassa waterbucks, warthogs, elephants, buffaloes, Topis and common elands. Drive to the Lodge before sunset with enough time to check-in, settle into your room and enjoy a lovely dinner.
Day 2: Classic game viewing adventure and afternoon launch cruise on Kazinga Channel.
Take a cup of tea/coffee and undertake a sunrise expedition through Queen Elizabeth National Park to watch the predators especially aardvark, spotted hyenas, lions, bush babies, leopards and many others while still active. Also expect to see Uganda Kobs, elephants, giant forest hogs, Topis, buffaloes, warthogs, bushbucks and many others during this interesting game drive and return to the Lodge for a hefty and proper breakfast.
In the afternoon after nourishing your stomach with a delicious hot meal, set off for the drive to the Mweya jetty to start the boat cruise along the majestic and serene Kazinga Channel. This slow boat cruise allows you to experience Uganda’s aquatic wildlife species and birds near the banks of the Channel by a relaxing boat cruise.
Seeing hippos and Nile crocodiles as well as numerous bird species may not be special but seeing them and soaking up the sun while drifting along the Kazinga Channel is a priceless moment. Sumptuous dinner and comfortable place to stay is an excellent way to draw the evening to a close.
Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura gorge and drive to Ishasha Sector.
Today’s adventure leads you to the lush Kyambura gorge, home to the Park’s isolated Chimpanzee community. Have breakfast and with your lunch box be driven to the site where you will track them for 1-2 hours while encountering other primate species, birds and reptiles. Find them foraging, resting, making hooting calls, mating or rolling on tree branches and spend one hour in their presence before enjoying your packed Lunch.
In the afternoon drive through the Park to Ishasha sector, home to the amazing tree climbing lions. Arrival during the afternoon means lions will be seen relaxing on fig tree branches as a way of escaping the scotching sunshine or irritating insects on the ground. Although the tree climbing lions are the main focus here, don’t forget that the sector is also home to warthogs, Topis and Uganda Kobs which will also be spotted during the drive.
Day 4: Transfer from Ishasha sector to Kampala.
Breakfast and undertake another game drive through Ishasha sector to increase your chances of spotting more of Queen Elizabeth National Park’s beauties. As the day draws on leave this marvelous destination, for a return to Kampala City via Mbarara Town for Lunch and Mpambire Drum makers for drum souvenirs. Be driven to the Hotel for dinner and overnight, if you have an extra night in the City/Country or to Entebbe International Airport for your late flight.
