5 DAYS MURCHISON FALLS AND KIBALE FOREST TOUR.
Overview.
The 5 days Murchison and Kibale Forest Tour is basically about classic wildlife viewing and chimpanzee tracking tour, starting and ending from Kampala/or Entebbe. A road trip to Murchison falls National Park in north-western Uganda means en-route visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, game drives with views of big five animals, giraffes, Uganda Kobs, Jackson’s hartebeests, Oribis and spotted hyenas among others, in addition to the hike to the top of the falls as well as the Delta Nile Boat cruise.
Visiting Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda means a chance to track the chimpanzees, a guided walk through Bigodi wetland Sanctuary and many other en-route stops.
Trip itinerary.
Day 1: Arrival into Uganda and connect to Murchison falls National Park.
Pick-up from Entebbe International Airport or place of stay in Kampala/Entebbe for a drive to Murchison falls National Park, about 7-8 hours’ drive including en-route stops. A stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for Rhino tracking, lasting 2 hours with views of the southern white Rhinos as well as other wildlife species such as Uganda Kobs, Defassa waterbucks, olive baboons and Uganda Kobs among others.
Settle for Lunch at Kabalega Diners and enter the Park with a game drive that brings you closer to a variety of savannah-dwelling animals and bird species. Optional evening game drive that rewards you with views of the nocturnal species such as spotted hyenas, leopards, bush babies, lions and serval cats, then transfer to the Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Morning game drive through the lush savannah plains of Murchison falls n/Park, Boat cruise and Hike to top of the falls.
The morning game drive with start by 6:30am after breakfast at the Lodge and involves exploring the different savannah and woodland dominant wildlife species such as Masai giraffes, Uganda Kobs, warthogs, Jackson’s hartebeests, Defassa waterbucks, elephants, Oribis, Topis, buffaloes and bushbucks grazing across the vast Park landscape. The game drive also leads to the nearby thickets where spotted hyenas, lions and leopards always hide and drive back to the Lodge for Lunch and short relaxation.
In the afternoon at 2:00pm the boat leaves Paraa jetty for the majestic boat cruise on the Nile River to the bottom of the Murchison falls, with phenomenal views of the Nile River waters squeezing through a 7-meter gorge before falling 45 meters below with a thunderous sound and creating the trademark Rainbow in the sky. Expect sights of Hippos, crocodiles, birds (pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, African fish eagles and many others).
The boat cruise will lead to the starting point for the 45-60 minutes’ hike to the top of the falls with more dramatic views of the Murchison falls, then transfer to the Lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Connect to Kibale Forest National Park, in the western side of Uganda.
Set-off for a drive to Kibale Forest National Park after breakfast at the Lodge in Murchison falls National Park. The 7-8 hours’ drive offers majestic views of the Lake Albert flats, the Escarpment wall, tea plantations and the snow-capped Mountains in addition to meeting locals going about their daily farm activities during the countryside drive.
Lunch in Fort Portal Town while dinner and overnight within or near Kibale Forest National Park.
Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking within the verdant jungles of Kibale Forest National Park and birding within Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary.
On this day, meet face to face with the iconic creatures of Kibale Forest National Park in addition to other primate species, birds and tree species sheltered here. Start the day with breakfast, followed by assembling at Kanyanchu Visitor center for registration and briefing on the rules and regulations of the chimpanzee trek. The activity eventually starts at 8am and lasts 2-5 hours, including the one hour for chimpanzee viewing as they socialize, groom, play, feed and rest.
Lunch at the Lodge and is followed by a drive to Bigodi wetland Sanctuary, at the border of Kibale Forest National Park for bird watching as well as insight into community involvement into conservation. Catch a glimpse of more primate species, array of butterfly species and bird species including African Pitts, Great blue Turaco and Papyrus gonolek among others. Return to the same Lodge as the previous day for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Amabere Caves Tour and return to Kampala.
On the last day of your safari, have breakfast and check-out of the Lodge to return to Kampala. You may pay a short visit to the Amabere ga Nyinamwiru Caves and waterfalls, Lunch en-route and drop-off at Entebbe International Airport for return flight or agreed drop-off point.
