The 5 days Murchison & Lake Mburo Safari is every visitor’s ultimate safari experience, leading to the largest National Park-Murchison falls National Park in extreme north-west of Uganda as well as the smallest savannah Park-Lake Mburo National Park in western Uganda. Although these two Parks are savannah-dominant destinations, they offer some unique wildlife species. The exceptional wildlife species that you will only find in Lake Mburo National Park are impalas, common elands and Burchell’s zebras while the elephants, Lions and Jackson’s hartebeests will only be spotted in Murchison falls National Park.
Other popular sightings within these two wonderful destinations are Defassa waterbucks, elephants, buffaloes, vervet monkeys, leopards, Oribis, Topis, duikers, reedbucks, olive baboons, spotted hyenas, Hippos, sitatunga, Nile crocodiles, chimpanzees, Rothschild giraffes, bushbucks, Uganda Kobs and many others. The safari will also expose the outstanding bird species in these two popular Ugandan destinations such as shoebill storks, Abyssinian ground hornbills, secretary birds, African skimmer, grey-crowned cranes, African fish eagles, Goliath herons, pied and giant kingfishers, swamp flycatcher, black-headed lapwings and many others.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Pick-up from any location in Kampala and travel to Murchison falls National Park.
Have breakfast at the Hotel and meet with your safari driver. Board the open-roof safari vehicle for the 7-8 scenic drive, your first once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the unique wildlife species of Africa’s wilderness. Make an en-route stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakitoma, Nakasongola district where you will track Rhinos for 2 hours within their natural habitat.
Lunch will be at Amuka Safari Lodge or Kabalega Diners and after continue with your drive to the Park. Dinner and overnight will be in any of the budget, midrange or Luxury Lodges/Tented Camps in Murchison falls National Park.
Day 2: Explore Murchison falls National Park through game drive and boat cruise along the Nile
At sunrise expect a pick-up from the Lodge for the game drive through the northern banks of River Nile, and make sure to have UWA Ranger guide on-board to help you uncover the hidden secrets of this Park. Be prepared to watch the denizens of this Park roaming across the open savannah plains, especially Rothschild giraffes, olive baboons, elephants, buffaloes, bushbucks, Topis, Oribis, vervet monkeys, Jackson’s hartebeests, Uganda Kobs and Defassa waterbucks. The mentioned animals in turn attract numerous predators such as lions, leopards as well as the scavenging spotted hyenas.
After 3-4 hours of the game drive get back to the Lodge for breakfast and rest for the remainder of the morning. Lunch will be served at 13h00 and at 14h00 enjoy a boat cruise along the Nile River to the bottom of the falls. This is another wildlife viewing and birding experience as different species such as Hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, bushbucks and Uganda Kobs as well as giant kingfishers, African fish eagles, shoebill storks and many others are encountered. Dinner and overnight in the same Lodge (as the previous day).
Day 3: All day transfer to Lake Mburo National Park, in western Uganda.
Breakfast at the Lodge and drive to Kampala City in your customized 4WD Vehicle, then connect to Lake Mburo National Park. Lunch will be in one of the eateries/restaurants in Kampala and continue with the journey with a stop at Uganda Equator then arrive in the evening for relaxation/rejuvenation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Wildlife viewing through popular game tracks and afternoon boat ride on Lake Mburo.
After breakfast, we embark on a game drive through the open plains of Lake Mburo National Park. Awaken your senses as you relish the indelible morning wildlife viewing while listening to the whispers of the wild with a Park ranger on-board. If you are seeking more adventurous and intimate taste of the wilderness, undertake the guided bush walk where buffaloes, zebras, impalas, Rothschild giraffes, Defassa waterbucks, Topis, common elands, Oribis, bushbucks and spotted hyenas that quench your thirst for animals views.
In the afternoon indulge yourself in the boat ride on Lake Mburo where small populations of Nile crocodiles and Hippos are seen relaxing in the deep waters and nearby wetlands. Birds are also unmissable during this water-based adventure. After this rewarding boat ride, return back to the Lodge for the taste of truly mouth-watering local or International dishes.
Day 5: Drive back to Kampala/or Entebbe.
A hefty breakfast followed by final game drive is on your morning program, then return back to the Lodge for Lunch. This marks the end of your exciting safari and drive back to Entebbe International Airport for your return flight or to Kampala for the continuation of your long safari.
