5 DAYS RWANDA GORILLAS AND WILDLIFE SAFARI

5 DAYS RWANDA GORILLA TREKKING AND WILDLIFE SAFARI.
Overview.
Rwanda is undoubtedly a wonderful gorilla trekking destination but may not register as bucket list destination for wildlife viewing safaris but with the 5 days Rwanda Gorillas and Wildlife Safari, you will discover the hidden gem that most travelers don’t know about the land of a thousand hills.
With only two destinations to be visited, you won’t believe that you will encounter the mountain gorillas, buffaloes, elephants, bushbucks, Topis, Masai giraffes, zebras, Defassa waterbucks, common elands, warthogs, black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons, bush babies, lions, rhinos, leopards, spotted hyenas, Kobs, Oribis, hartebeests and gazelles among others.
Much as gorilla trekking is the highlight of the safari, other activities you should expect are game drives, boat ride on Lake Ihema, visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village and Kigali City tour among others.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda and drive to Akagera National Park, eastern Rwanda.
Be welcomed at Kigali International Airport by our Company representative for a scenic drive to the spectacular Akagera National Park within the Eastern part of Rwanda.
While being driven, let your camera capture the phenomenal views of the rolling hills and arrive in the afternoon where you drive slowly through the Park while identifying the animals to the booked lodge for a hot meal and relaxation. Dinner and overnight stay will be at one of the many safari lodges in Akagera National Park.
Day 2: Game viewing and boat ride on Lake Ihema.
Set off for the morning game drive through the northern part of the Park that is known for vast savannah grasslands and numerous wildlife species. This is after having breakfast so that all your focus is on the wildlife and bird species not demands of your stomach (hunger).
Expect to see the big five animals (Rhinos, leopards, lions, buffaloes and elephants), olive baboons, vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, zebras, Defassa waterbucks, warthogs, Hippos, Oribis, Topis, Kobs, common elands, Masai giraffes and many others. You will be driven back to the Lodge for a hot meal.
In the afternoon set off for the boat ride on Lake Ihema where you will see Hippos and Nile crocodiles in the shallow ends of the Lake as well as elephants, buffaloes and Kobs drinking along the shores of the Lake. After the productive Boat ride, head back to your Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer from Akagera National Park to Volcanoes National Park, north-western Rwanda.
On this Day you will be leaving Akagera National Park for Volcanoes National Park and the day will start with breakfast followed by check-out of the lodge for a drive through the Park. Exit the Park for Volcanoes National Park, the only gorilla trekking destination in the country. Freshen-up on arrival, relax, have dinner and overnight at the booked Safari Lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking adventure and visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, outside Volcanoes National Park.
Early in the morning breakfast will be ready and get prepared for the gorilla trek by moving to Kinigi park headquarters. Be registered and briefed on the rules and regulations of trekking the gorillas and be allocated to the gorilla family. Move to the trailhead and set out for the life-changing trek through the forest, an experience that lasts 2-5 hours including the one hour to watch and take photos of them sleeping, playing, foraging and grooming each other.
In the afternoon visit the popular Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village at the borders of Volcanoes National Park. Activities offered here are cultural dance performances, basket weaving demonstrations, banana beer brewing, preparation and tasting of local cuisines and millet grinding with stones, activities that are typical of Rwandan culture. Dinner and overnight stay at the same safari lodge as the previous night.
Day 5: Depart for Kigali.
In the morning after breakfast embark on a tour of the Twin Lakes, Dian Fossey gravesite hike or Mount Bisoke Hike before enjoying Lunch and connecting to Kigali City/International Airport for departure flight.
End of your 5 days Rwanda Gorillas and Wildlife Safari.
