7 DAYS UGANDA SAFARI.
Overview.
Explore the incredible mix that Uganda-christened the Pearl of Africa can offer during this 7 days Safari. Whether it is mountain gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking or game drives on the vast savannah grasslands where giraffes, lions, leopards, serval cats, Topis, Uganda Kobs and waterbucks, it is all possible during this one week safari. The safari starts in Uganda (Kampala or Entebbe) and ends in the same place.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Drive from Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, in south-western Uganda.
Breakfast at the Hotel and warm welcome by your safari driver/guide before embarking on the 8-9 hours’ drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, in south-western Uganda.
Enroute stops at Uganda Equator crossing in Kayabwe for photography and lunch break at Igongo Cultural Center with arrival at the gorilla trekking destination in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Rip-roaring mountain gorilla trek and community experience.
In the morning after a sumptuous breakfast, converge at the Park Headquarters for registration and briefing by UWA Park officials. Briefing is conducted to make tourists acquainted with the gorilla trekking guidelines that among which include maintaining a distance of 7 meters from the mountain gorillas, avoiding noise, avoiding the use of flash camera when taking photos and not eating/drinking in the presence of the mountain gorillas.
Trekking starts at 8am in in the company of armed Park ranger as well as porters, and lasts 2-5 hours including the one hour spent with the allocated gorilla family. Retreat to the lodge for lunch and short relaxation.
In the evening pay a visit to one of the local communities living around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, preferably the Batwa people whose ancient lifestyle depended on the forest. Listen to their ancient stories, visit traditional healer and be marveled by how they make fire from rubbing sticks. Dinner and overnight stay within one of the stupendous Safari Lodges in the outskirts of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Day 3: Transfer to the alluring Queen Elizabeth National Park, in western Uganda.
Breakfast then leave the verdant jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for Queen Elizabeth National Park, the medley of wonders with over 95 species of mammals, over 60% of Uganda’s total bird species and many other spectacles worth exploring during a safari in Uganda.
Enter Queen Elizabeth NP through the southern part (Ishasha sector) where unique kinds of lions are found lazing on fig tree branches. On arrival, straight away start driving through the Park while identifying the variety of wildlife and bird species. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at one of the exquisite Safari Lodges/Tented Camps.
Day 4: Wildlife Viewing and boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel.
Be served a delicious breakfast at the Lodge and set off for the game drive along the northern areas of Queen Elizabeth National Park where high concentrations of maned lions, leopards, Uganda Kobs, serval cats, elephants, spotted hyenas, buffaloes, common elands, warthogs, bushbucks and many others will be spotted. Retreat to the Lodge for a hot meal and cold drink after 2-3 hours driving under the hot tropical sunshine.
The boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel is what will occupy your afternoon in Queen Elizabeth National Park. More of the Park’s wildlife species especially Nile crocodiles and Hippos in the waters, elephants, Uganda Kobs and buffaloes on the banks will be spotted. Walk back or be driven to the Lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Road trip to the lush Kibale Forest National Park.
On this day you will have to leave Queen Elizabeth National Park for the third and last National Park in your itinerary. Be served breakfast and Pack your bags for the drive to Kibale Forest National Park, but most interestingly continue encountering more of the savannah Park’s wildlife species. A number of enroute tourist sites like Toro Royal Palace, Amabere Ga Nyinamwiru Caves as well as nearby Crater Lakes will be visited and enroute Lunch will be at Fort Portal Town.
Arrival at the Primate Capital of the World (as Kibale Forest National Park is known) is in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Chimpanzee tracking adventure and afternoon wetland tour
Early in the morning have breakfast and gather at Kanyanchu Visitor Center for registration which will require you to present passport details as well as chimpanzee trekking permit. Be briefed by the Park officials on the guidelines of trekking chimpanzees after which enter the forest where other residents such as mammals, birds, butterflies and reptiles while be encountered during the 1-3 hours trek. One hour is the time you will be allowed to explore the behavior-feeding, resting, playing, copulating and grooming while taking photos with non-flash cameras.
Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon be driven to the nearby Bigodi wetland Sanctuary, an excellent birding spot in Uganda with over 200 species of wetland birds. The guided nature walk through this wetland will also reward you with the sights and sounds of more primate species especially vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons and many others. Get a chance to visit some of the local tourism projects by communities and get back to the Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Return to Kampala City
Breakfast and check-out of the lodge for a return journey to Kampala City. This journey takes 5-6 hours and lunch is enroute.
