Overview.
The 9 days Uganda Safari starts and ends in Kampala, and is about gorilla trekking, wildlife viewing, chimpanzee trekking and Boat cruise adventures within four awe-inspiring National Parks-Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi Impenetrable and Lake Mburo National Park as well as the spectacular Lake Bunyonyi. With unique wildlife species such as zebras, mountain gorillas, vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, leopards, common elands, blue monkeys, chimpanzees, Topis, Masai giraffes, spotted hyenas, buffaloes, L’Hoests monkeys, lions, elephants, red-tailed monkeys, Uganda Kobs, Olive baboons, serval cats, Hippos, Grey-cheeked mangabeys, Defassa waterbucks, Nile crocodiles, no person remains the same after taking part in this 9 days Uganda Safari.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Meet and greet at the Hotel or Airport and drive to Kibale Forest National Park
Your adventurous safari begins on this day with meet and greet at the Hotel or any other location in Kampala/Entebbe in the morning before embarking on the drive to Kibale Forest National Park. This Park is only 5-7 hours’ drive from the City Center and accessing it means transversing several Towns and destinations such as Mityana, Mubende and Fort Portal.
While driving make a stop at Nakayima Tree in Mubende for cultural discovery and continue to Fort Portal while enjoying views of huge Rock kopjes as well as vast tea plantations. Arrive Fort portal in the afternoon for Lunch and Kibale Forest National Park in the evening for dinner, overnight stay and relaxation while waiting for the chimp trek the following day.
Day 2: Incredible Chimpanzee trekking adventure and guided wetland walk
Have breakfast and prepare yourself for the chimpanzee trek. Y our safari driver will pick you up and transfer to Kanyanchu Visitor Center where you will find other visitors. Join fellow enthusiastic trekkers for briefing and grouping into the chimpanzee communities, then be assigned a ranger from Uganda Wildlife Authority. After many years of doing the job, your guide will leads you through the forest to the chimpanzees but most importantly identify unique attractions especially birds, primates, butterflies and tree species encountered during the trek. One hour is the allotted time in the presence of the chimpanzees and retreat to the Lodge for Lunch.
On having Lunch and resting for a short time, your mind and body is now prepared for the afternoon swamp walk. While on this walk, different primates such as red colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and wetland bird species are encountered.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and night game drive.
On this day say goodbye to Kibale Forest National Park and embark on your journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park, for unmatched African game encounters. The drive to this Park is undeniably interesting as you enjoy views of the snow-capped Mountains of the Moon (Rwenzori Mountains), banana and tea plantations and make a stop at Karambi Royal Tombs (burial place for Toro Kingdom Royals) and arrive in the afternoon for check-in, cold shower and hot meal. Use the entire afternoon and evening to relax and prepare for the night game drive.
The night game drive is conducted in the company of an armed Park ranger/guide who will identify the nocturnal wildlife species such as serval cats, spotted hyenas, lions, leopards, caracal and aardvark on the hunt in addition to several Uganda Kobs, bushbucks and Topis on the look-out for predators and ready to jump at the sight of any. Drive back to the Lodge for dinner while enjoying the quietness and peacefulness of the wilderness.
Day 4: Adventurous game drive through the spectacular savannah grasslands and boat cruise on Kazinga Channel.
Breakfast and drive to Kasenyi area for magical wildlife viewing adventures where numerous animals such as spotted hyenas, elephants, Uganda Kobs, warthogs, Defassa waterbucks, Topis, common elands and other wildlife species that were not spotted the previous day. The game drive will last 3-4 hours and will not only introduce you to the wildlife and bird species of the Park but also breathtaking Crater Lakes.
Drive back to the Lodge for sumptuous hot meal and transfer to Mweya jetty where you will find the boat, guides and Captain, ready to take you through the boat cruise. Here is where the Park’s numerous Hippos, Nile crocodiles, wetland and aquatic bird species can be found. By the time the boat cruise ends, you will also capture sunset views in the Park and drive back to the Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Ishasha game drive and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla trekking.
On this day you will leave Queen Elizabeth National Park for a drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, through the magnificent Ishasha sector. While heading to Ishasha, don’t ignore the different wildlife and bird species and on getting there, start the game drive that will be climaxed by the views of rare tree climbing lions.
Lunch will be at Savannah Resort Kihihi (Kanungu district) and drive to Bwindi through terraced hills, arriving in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Mountain gorilla trekking in any of the regions of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Your safari guide will pick you up from the Lodge after breakfast and head to the Park Headquarters for registration and briefing. This is followed by allocation into gorilla families, hiring porters (at your own cost) and assigning a Park ranger to lead the trek for gentle giants. Trek for hours (1-4 hours) and with the guidance of trackers locate them and spend one hour in their presence to observe and take photographs as they play, feed, rest and even copulate.
After this magical moment in the jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, descend to the trailhead for the trekking certificate and return back to the Lodge. Freshen-up, have Lunch and pack your bags to say goodbye to Bwindi and head to Lake Bunyonyi. Your evening here will be interesting as you get the chance to swim in Africa’s second deepest Lake, take on a dug-out canoe ride or undertake a guided community walk.
Day 7: Drive from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to the serene Lake Bunyonyi.
Having successfully trekked the mountain gorillas and memories of your time with them still fresh, leave for Lake Bunyonyi for unwinding. Enjoy breakfast and drive through the beautiful terraced hills, farmlands and the countryside with unmatched sceneries.
Have Lunch on arrival and undertake a canoe ride to some of the breathtaking Islands with exceptional historical backgrounds. With visions and words from the visit on your mind, return to the Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Travel from Lake Bunyonyi to Lake Mburo National Park for game drive and boat ride
Your 9 days adventure proceeds to Lake Mburo National Park after a lovely breakfast and arrive in the afternoon for Lunch at any of the Park’s stupendous safari Lodges. Let your wildlife viewing adventure start on entering through any of the Park gates where giraffes, impalas, bushbucks, Topis, Defassa waterbucks, warthogs, vervet monkeys, common elands and olive baboons will be encountered. We head out for the boat ride on Lake Mburo where small populations of Hippos ad Nile crocodiles are seen, then retreat to the Lodge for slumber and delicious meal.
Day 9: Morning walking safari and return to Kampala.
On the last day of your safari you will be returning back to the Capital but first, have breakfast then undertake a guided bush walk through the sweeping plains, Rubanga forest or the salt licks where numerous wildlife species are encountered.
Leave for Kampala after a delicious lunch at the lodge and arrive in the evening for check-in at a hotel or direct to Entebbe International airport for flight to your next destination.
