Overview.
A climbing trek to Nyiragongo volcano takes you to the world’s most scenic place, and an opportunity to sleep just close to molten magma that erupted a few years ago.
This 2 day trip departs every day from Goma and is among the most sought after of all Virunga national park packages.

Day 1: Pick up from Goma and start Nyiragongo hike.
By 7:00am, be ready at Virunga tourism office in Goma city for document verification and purchasing visa, permits, etc. At 8:00am, you will depart from the boarder to Kibati area, at the base of Mount, Nyiragongo.
Attend a briefing conducted by a team of rangers and start the climb at 10am, together with porters, hired from the ranger station. This hike lasts for approximately 6 hours, depending on the speed of climbers, but usually by 5:00pm you’ll have arrived at the summit shelters where you will spend a night.
Day 2: Descend to the bottom of Nyiragongo.
Have an early warm breakfast, served by an onsite cook. Admire the beautiful panoramic views of Nyiragongo crater, melting lava, Mount. Nyamuragira and Mount. Mikeno in the distance.
Begin a descent at 6:00am and for the next 4 hours or so, you will trekking down to the base of Mount. Nyiragongo. You will meet your guides at the bottom who will transfer you back to Goma, at Grand Barrielle for drop off or continue to Kigali to catch your outbound flight.
